The group representing Cardinal Mooney’s Speech and Debate team at the National Tournament got bigger this past Saturday.

Junior Maureen Baker and Sophomore Olivia DeCesare punched their tickets to Albuquerque in June by winning the Northern Ohio National Speech and Debate Tournament held at Howland High School.

Baker took top prize in International Extemporaneous, while DeCesare defeated the entire field in Lincoln Douglas Debate.

On Friday, the Duo Interpretation team of Annie Driscoll and Joey Neider earned their spot at the National Tournament by winning the district runner-up trophies.
Senior Alexandria Patrone is the first alternate in the district, as she placed third in International Extemporaneous. She was joined on the stage by fellow senior Kathleyna Wilkins, who placed fifth; and freshman Jacob Graber, who placed seventh. In doing so, Graber also earned a spot to the state tournament in March.

Freshman Lincoln Douglas debater Sarah Owens was also a District finalist, an achievement that earned a spot at the State Tournament.
