YOUNGSTOWN – Cardinal Mooney High School is proud to announce the appointment of Frank Colaprete as the new head football coach. A Cardinal Mooney alumnus from the Class of 1992, Colaprete returns with a distinguished coaching background and a deep-rooted connection to the school’s storied football tradition. His father, Dominic “Duke” Colaprete, a long-time football coach at Cardinal Mooney, graduated in 1963.
Frank’s mother Kathy (‘63), and sisters Amy (‘88) and Anne Marie (’94) are also graduates of Cardinal Mooney.
Colaprete joins Cardinal Mooney after a successful 12-year tenure as head football coach at The College of Wooster, where he is known for fostering well-rounded student-athletes. His leadership emphasized excellence both on the field and in academics.
“We are thrilled to welcome Frank Colaprete back to Cardinal Mooney as our new head football coach,” said Nick Beyer, president/principal of Cardinal Mooney. “Frank has deep roots in this community and a legacy of football excellence that spans generations. He has proven himself as a dynamic leader and mentor, and we are confident he will continue to build on the proud tradition of Mooney football while elevating our entire athletic program. His experience and understanding of what makes Cardinal Mooney special will be invaluable as we move forward.”
During his time at Wooster, Colaprete received nationwide recognition as a head coach, guided his team to sustained success, and fostered an environment where student-athletes thrived both academically and athletically. He is widely respected for his emphasis on teamwork, discipline, and the development of leadership skills among his players.
“I am incredibly honored and humbled to return to Cardinal Mooney as the head football coach,” Colaprete said. “This school has meant so much to me and my family, and we’re all so thankful and very excited to get started.”
Frank Colaprete’s mindset reflects principles that are woven into the fabric of Cardinal Mooney.
“Our goal is to continue Cardinal Mooney’s history of excellence without entitlement,” he said. “I expect nothing less, because it’s been instilled in us since the school opened. We are going to earn everything we want to achieve.”
Colaprete’s appointment maintains the school’s legacy while looking forward. The Colaprete family’s history at the school, coupled with Frank’s professional achievements, sets the stage for continued success in the years ahead.
“We are proud of the legacy Frank and his father have built at Cardinal Mooney,” Beyer added. “Frank’s leadership will inspire our athletes to achieve excellence both on and off the field, and we look forward to seeing the entire athletic program thrive under his guidance.”
