The world needs more Cardinals
Dear Mooney family,
As we begin the third week of Advent, I’m happy to report that administration, along with our faculty, continue to manage our COVID related challenges while providing instruction both in-person and online.
Approximately one fifth of our student population is learning remotely and can return after the Christmas vacation, on Jan. 8. Our Speech & Debate Team continues to compete virtually. Men’s and women’s basketball are healthy and competing as opponents are available. Our faculty is showing great resilience and determination to be in-person with our students. We have been fortunate to be able to support each other in cases when faculty and administration cannot be present. Last week marked week 15 since the opening of the school year. We have been remote for seven days during that time.
I attribute our success in educating in-person to our fundamental belief that we’re educating for more than college admissions. Ours is a transformative approach to educating students — one in which we are concerned with both what they learn and who they become.
We have been in school for 15 weeks because we believe the world needs more Cardinals. Educating according to time-tested principles, our alumni and students are distinguished by their lives of meaning, leadership, and achievement.
In a world where ethical confusion gives rise to crisis, Cardinals act with character, personal authority, and integrity.
In a world where there is dissonance, discord and distrust, Cardinals speak with insight, conviction, and civility.
In a world where differences engender violence and conflict, Cardinals bring empathy, faith, and reason.
Cardinals ensure that quality education remains accessible to all. They ensure that there will never be a caste-system of education in The Valley and in doing so they reduce inequality.
Cardinals engage in our complex, globalized society with the cultural, linguistic, and historical competencies today’s citizens need. They think critically, grow spiritually, and lead ethically, readily, and creatively responding to the great challenges of our day.
We are in-person, every day, and all day to ensure that our community has a new generation of exceptionally educated, talented, and engaged Cardinals.
The world needs more Cardinals, and Mooney continues to demonstrate its commitment to education and to our students promise and possibilities.
Thank you for sharing your Cardinal with us. Thank you to all our donors and benefactors who support Catholic education and the education of more Cardinals.
On behalf of the entire faculty and staff, I want to wish all a joyful, peaceful, and Merry Christmas. I am certain that 2021 will be a happy New Year.
