Dear Cardinal Mooney Alumni and Friends:
We have important news to share, and we wanted you to hear it directly from us.
Cardinal Mooney High School President Mark Oles and Principal Mark Vollmer are leaving their positions at the school, effective immediately.
We thank Mr. Oles and Mr. Vollmer for their service and contributions to Cardinal Mooney.
We realize that sudden change will most likely prompt questions and, perhaps, speculation and rumor. We want to emphasize to everyone that this change is the result of much discussion, review and reflection about what is best for Cardinal Mooney’s students, parents, teachers, staff and many other supporters. It is what is best for Cardinal Mooney’s future as we work together to continue the proud, rich Cardinal Mooney tradition of Sanctity, Scholarship, and Discipline.
Current Cardinal Mooney CEO Richard Osborne will also assume the duties of president and Dr. Mary Anne Beiting, Director of Accreditation and Government Programs for the diocesan Office of Catholic Schools, will assume the role of interim Principal. Both have been working at Cardinal Mooney since last November.
Here is what’s not changing: The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown’s commitment to the future of Cardinal Mooney High School. We hope you can see that commitment, in part, in the Diocese’s recruitment of Mr. Osborne and Dr. Beiting to help Cardinal Mooney. As we have said before, Cardinal Mooney has a proud, rich tradition. We will build on that even as we take on the new challenges that are faced by all Catholic high schools to further strengthen our tradition of intellectual, spiritual and personal excellence. Our focus now is on finding the next great Cardinal Mooney leaders.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to the great tradition of Catholic education. Sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend George V. Murry, SJ Bishop of Youngstown
Mary Fiala Superintendent of Schools
