Congratulations to these students for their commitment to service, their exemplary leadership in our school and community, as well as their witness to Christian values.

The Mahoning Valley Teen Outreach Program is a volunteer opportunity for high school juniors and seniors sponsored by Akron Children’s Hospital.  Over 25 area high schools participate.  Members are selected based on a strict criteria including:  desire to work with children, strong leadership abilities, and a history of dependability, self-motivation, and accountability.  Also crucial to membership is fulfilling a 10-hour service commitment throughout the school year. This past year’s Akron Children’s “Teen Outreach” recognition went to senior Madeleine Abrigg.

The Cardinal Mooney Citizenship Award is awarded to students for their daily care, respect and reverence of the American Flag. This year’s honorees were sophomores KaJuane Weeden and Dwayne Thornton.

The Eagle of the Cross is given annually in the Diocese of Youngstown to high school seniors who show particular zeal in the improvement of their parish youth ministry program, high school ministry teams or other ministries within the Diocese.  The nominees must be Catholic, and exemplify the qualities of moral integrity, prayer, good works and Christian leadership.  This year’s recipients were Gino Ginnetti and Michaelina Appugliese.

The Cardinal Mooney Senior Religion Award is given to seniors who exemplify the qualities of moral integrity, prayer, good works, Christian leadership, and involvement in ministry. This year’s honorees were Joseph Kelty and Marta Hergenrother.

The Pope Francis Service Award (given in honor of the DeBartolo and DeBartolo-York Families) is given to a senior who demonstrates authentic faith, which always involves a deep desire to change the world and to leave it better than the way we found it. This year’s honoree was senior Brennan Bizon.

The Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award is given by the Ohio High School Athletic Association in recognition of exemplary sportsmanship. This year’s honorees were seniors Nicholas Bucci and Jami DiFabio.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Award, presented by State Farm Insurance Agent Jim Noel, is given in recognition of academic achievement while participating in sports. Receiving this award this year were seniors Nicholas Koken and Elizabeth Matthews.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Award of Excellence, is awarded for exemplary display of sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity. This year the honor went to seniors Andrew Armstrong and Sydney Kocher.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Courageous Student Award is given annually to students for demonstrating extraordinary courage. This year three students were honored, seniors Andrew Armstrong, Joseph Barringer, and Alexandra Herman.

Each year the Cardinal Mooney Principal’s Award is given to one senior “In recognition of outstanding contribution through service, leadership and Christian witness throughout four years at Cardinal Mooney High School.”  The 2016 Award went to Isabel Stoeber.
