The Oscars is one of the most viewed award ceremonies in the U.S.

The Academy Awards can examine the most popular movies that have done well in the box office or just received positive reviews.

The five main categories in the Academy Awards are Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay.

In my opinion for best picture, it’s between Barbie and Oppenheimer. Both of these movies are so interesting to look at for two completely different reasons.

Barbie is bright and colorful with the iconic pink coloring, while Oppenheimer is gritty, with its browns, blacks, and reds.

For Best Director, I would say Greta Gerwig for Barbie but sadly she wasn’t a nominee which is a little infuriating. So I would say Christopher Nolan for Oppenheimer, based on the reviews I’ve seen Nolan did a good job getting everything right scientifically and cinematically.

Best Actor should go to Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer.

We can’t have a best actor without the Best actress. I would have chosen Margot Robbie as Barbie but, like Gerwig, she also wasn’t nominated .

Of the nominated performers, I think Lily Gladstone should win. She was fantastic in The Killers of the Flower Moon.

For best screenplay, I’ll say Maestro Written by Bradley Cooper & Josh Singer. It’s a well-written piece about a complicated individual.

I’m gonna add in another category, Best animation. I have a deep appreciation for animated movies and I watch them more than live action movies most of the time.

I’m torn between two films: Spider-man Across the Spider-Verse and Nimona.

Spider-man is well animated, has great writing, and characters you grow attached to.

While Nimona is a Netflix original movie with its story being a kinda mirror on our society with a fantasy twist on it, it is written wonderfully and has characters that the viewers can relate to.

I just wish that the people at the Oscars would have more respect for the animation community. It takes a long time to put a whole movie together.
