YOUNGSTOWN – Cardinal Mooney High School soccer standouts Angel Alvarez and Frankie Cassese have been named to the all-state team following impressive performances this past season.
This marks Alvarez’s second consecutive all-state selection. The junior forward, known for his dynamic playmaking ability, credited his teammates for their support.
“It’s nothing new for me; I’m just playing how I play,” Alvarez said. “My teammates pass me the ball and give me the opportunities to score.”
Cassese, who earned all-state recognition for the first time, who helped her team to a district championship, reflected on the hard work and support that propelled her to this achievement.
“I’m really proud of myself and all the work that paid off,” Cassese said. “My coaches pushed me hard, and my teammates stayed supportive throughout the year.”
As both players head into their junior seasons, they’re determined to build on this momentum. Cassese aims to help her team contend for a state title, while Alvarez is focused on earning a third all-state honor and making a deeper playoff run.
Cardinal Mooney soccer fans will be watching closely as these two athletes continue to shine on and off the field.
Alvarez also earned a spot on the All-Steel Valley Soccer Elite 11, while Cassese claimed an honorable mention honor.
Both also appear on other postseason teams. All of our fall athletes’ postseason honors can be read here.
