YOUNGSTOWN — The Holy War adds another chapter this week on the pitch when Cardinal Mooney faces Ursuline in a doubleheader on Wednesday at YSU. The night starts at 6 p.m. with the women’s match, and the men cap off the night with an 8 p.m. start.

Last year, Mooney and Ursuline split the series, the Cardinal’s girls team winning 3-0 while Ursuline’s men emerged with a 2-1 victory.

Leading up to the big game, junior Frankie Cassese spoke on being mentally ready throughout the week.

“I feel confident going into this Ursuline game… we have made all the adjustments we needed to for the game,” Cassese said.

Fellow captain, senior Liv Hunt added that the Cardinals have practiced well, and have been getting better throughout the year.

This game is the last on the schedule for Cardinal Mooney’s women’s team, which has a 6-5-3 record on the year heading into the playoffs.

With the playoff brackets already set, the Cardinals men’s team hopes to gather some momentum with a win over their rivals.

Captain Aiden Hyrb and striker Mahli Frangos talked about not only their confidence but the impact on the new talent that was introduced to the team this year.

“We had to learn to play together, so we came together as a team and have had a successful season,” Frangos said.

Hyrb added “We always play with a lot of confidence because coach Britton has high expectations for this team.”

The Cardinal’s have had an impressive season at a record of 8-5. Looking past the Ursuline game the Cardinals finish their challenging schedule at home against Norwayne and Triway.
