Our 2016 National Qualifiers to the National Forensic League Tournament in Salt Lake City this June were:
District Champions: Daniel Driscoll in Lincoln Douglas Debate (Finished in Top 60) and Gino Ginnetti in Drama (Finished in Top 60)
District Runners Up: Frank Vennetti & Adriana Vennetti in Duo

The Academic All-American Award
The criteria for this award is students must have a GPA of 3.7 or better, a 27 or
higher on the ACT, over 750 NSDA points, and must be validated by the principal
and coach for character and leadership. The CMHS 2016 Academic All-Americans

The 2016 Speech and Debate team is further honored by the NSDA under the guidance of Forensic Director and Mooney alumna Jennifer Gonda, Once again our forensics program has been awarded membership to the 200 Club, a distinction granted to the top talent and membership of all high schools nationwide.
Ohio High School Speech League (OHSSL) State Tournament
The Cardinal Mooney High School Speech Team once again displayed an outstanding competitive spirit at the 2016 Ohio High School Speech League State Tournament hosted by Cincinnati Princeton High School in March. This tournament features 6 districts and over 850 competitors. Cardinal Mooney Speech & Debate Team placed 6th overall, once again sustaining the Top Ten placement of all High Schools competing at the tournament. 2016 STATE CHAMPIONS in Duo Interpretation: The brother and sister team of Senior Frank Vennetti and Sophomore Adriana Vennetti.
The 2016 OHSSL State Novice Tournament this season was held March 7th at Hathaway- Brown High School for all 1st year competitors. Cardinal Mooney speakers won there as well. They are as follows:

The Speech Team competed at the 2016 Northern Ohio NFL National qualifying tournament hosted by Poland High School in February. The CMHS Debate Team captured the District Title for the 3rd year in a row! Team Members include:

2016 The Youngstown Rotary 4-Way Speech Competition
The 2016 Youngstown Rotary 4-Way Speech Contest was held on Wednesday, February 25th at the Fifth Floor in downtown Youngstown. Out of three spots, CMHS captured two of them: Seniors Dan Driscoll placed 1st winning $100.00, and Haley Mitchell placed 3rd, claiming a $25.00 prize. The Boardman Rotary held their 4-Way Speech contest just one week later, and Cardinal Mooney also convinced audiences there. Seniors Seth Hill won 1st, and Marta Hergenrother placed 3rd, both receiving cash prizes.
