YOUNGSTOWN — The school year has just begun at Cardinal Mooney High School, but many students are already eager about what this year has to bring.

A lot of new faces are seen throughout the school, whether it’s transfers or incoming freshmen. Along with that, there are many familiar faces as well, and everyone is looking forward to the 2024-25 school year.

Genesis Alvarez, a new student at Cardinal Mooney, loves her change of scenery and is looking forward to being here.

“I love the new environment, everyone is so welcoming. I like the schedule and classes,” said Alvarez.

Alvarez is also a freshman, so coming into High School can be a big change. She also has to deal with the struggle of playing two sports in one season, but she’s ready for the opportunities.

“It’s a little more challenging but I can adjust to things really well. I just have a lot of more homework. It’s hard to play both sports, soccer and volleyball, I basically have no days off,” said Alvarez.

The start of the school year is always hard on the incoming seniors, because their time in High School is slowly coming to an end. A lot of them are just enjoying what time they have left.

Senior, Leah Marcello, is ready to go further than high school, but she loves the Cardinal Mooney experience.

“It really is sad that highschool is ending soon, but I’m excited to move onto the next chapter of my life,” says Marcello.

Juliana Ramos, a sophomore, talks about the new school year and all that’s coming.

“I’m happy to see my friends but I’m not excited to have to do work everyday again. I’m looking forward to basketball season because I love going to the games. I’m looking forward to softball season too because I play and enjoy it a lot, “ said Ramos.
