From Staff Reports
YOUNGSTOWN — We know how strong and passionate the Cardinal Mooney family is … and sometimes, proof is simply in the numbers.
More than $ 2,000 dollars of gift cards, 1,800 pounds of food, 1,300 separate food items were donated, and as a result, more than 65 families were served.
That’s what happens when students, faculty, staff, and alumni come together with one shared goal.
As soon as radio spots featuring our bright students hit the air through Mix 98.9, donations flowed through our doors. When all of the items were organized, students and staff delivered them to Catholic Charities, which partnered with us thanks to the help of executive director, Nancy Voitus (class of 1975).
“It was a great day to be a Mooney Cardinal, because we were able to feed 65 families in the Valley by collecting 1,800 pounds of food and almost $2000 in gift cards,” said Cardinal Mooney campus minister, Lori Radinsky. “The hard work and generosity of the Mooney Family is incredible. When asked to feed 50 families, we feed 65! It’s a great feeling to exceed a goal in that manner.”
Cardinal Mooney senior, Geno Bova helped in the organization of the food, and got a great deal of satisfaction being able to help so many people.
“It feels good to know that I had a part in feeding a lot of families during the holiday,” he said.
To kick off the effort, juniors Aidan Hryb and Roselyn Wade appeared on Dan Rivers’ morning show on Mix 98.9. The following week, seniors, Sophia Diorio and Nick Pregibon also appeared on the same show.
“Aidan, Roselyn, Sophia, and Nick were a shining example of how bright our students are,” Cardinal Mooney speech coach and director of communications, Vince Taddei said. “They represented the school so well, and most importantly, they brought awareness to such an important endeavor.”
Cardinal Mooney High School would like to thank Rivers for hosting our students and featuring them on his blog.
