YOUNGSTOWN — It’s time for the most anticipated rivalry game of the year — Ursuline vs. Mooney.

This year, students have come together and put their creativity to work by inventing themes that express friendship, mystery, and a week filled with excitement.

The main theme was chosen after a meeting with the seniors where they discussed ten different themes and the majority went towards Scooby Doo.

Each grade has a theme in which they decorate their hallways: freshman, winter wonderland; sophomores, Hawaiian; juniors, Halloween; seniors, Zombie

Along with the hallway themes, there is a different theme for each day of the week.
Monday – Country vs. Country Club
Tuesday – Duo Day
Wednesday – Heros vs. Villians
Thursday- Barbie
Friday- Red out

There is a lot that goes into this week that many people don’t know about. Everyone got together and separated into groups to start creating t-shirts, filming clips, and doing a lot of decorating.

Samatha Rotunno, a member of the student council, helped organize a lot for this week and is looking forward to it.

“ We took a lot of time and put our energy into this, trying to make it fun. I’m excited to see everything in action and what this week has to bring,” said Rotunno.

Spirit Week at Mooney is a tradition that goes way back..

One of the guidance counselors, Mrs.Dena O’Neill, also helped a lot with the planning of this week, and loves the yearly celebration.

“I’m excited for the week and I really admire the importance of the tradition behind it,” said O’Neill.

Spirit Week at Cardinal Mooney is about more than just dressing up; it’s a chance for students to come together, show pride, and support our football team.
