YOUNGSTOWN — The Cardinal Mooney girls’ soccer team is set to take on Norwayne in a district semifinal matchup Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Cardinals, seeded 13, advanced by defeating Cuyahoga Heights on Oct. 17. Both teams dominated their previous games, combining for 14 goals without conceding any.

To overcome Norwayne, the Cardinals will need to play a disciplined game and limit their opponent’s scoring chances. Senior Mia Williams emphasized the importance of “ball movement, communication, and taking shots” as keys to victory. Leah Hudak added that the team’s “mentality” would also play a crucial role, while sophomore Julia Diorio stressed, “working hard and finishing shots throughout the full game.”

Ball movement will be essential for Mooney to generate scoring opportunities and maintain consistency on the field. A strong mentality and teamwork will be vital for the Cardinals to secure the win.

If Mooney prevails, the team will advance to the district championship on Saturday to face the winner of the New Middletown Springfield vs. Smithville matchup.
